Individual Counseling
We provide individual counseling to students that request to speak with us or students that are referred by teachers, parents, or administrators. Individual counseling can be on- going or a short term basis depending on the problem situation. Confidentiality is an important part of this relationship between counselor and student. Your child can feel safe knowing that what is discussed will not be shared with others. Serious behavior problems or certain family issues may require more in-depth counseling with a licensed professional counselor at an outside agency. If this is recommended, referrals will be made and resources given to the parent or guardian. There are many topics that can be addressed in a individual counseling setting. Issues that a school counselor might address with students are:
Many times students will request a visit with the counselor regarding a situation at school and we will meet briefly to try and resolve the situation. An example of this would if there has been a problem on the playground, in the hallway or lunchroom. These types of visits do not require permission from a parent, however we do encourage students to go home and share with parents and guardians that we spoke and the reasons why. If the problem situation requires on-going counseling, a contact with parent will be made and we will work together with the student to correct the problem. If your child is experiencing any of these concerns, please contact us so that we work together to help your child deal effectively with these problems.
